A porcelain-skinned Viera, all dressed in white...The Viera always seems to know what to say to get what she wants. In the way she goes about things, she seems almost robotic at times. Her fighting style is elegant, as though she were dancing with her prey before the final cut. Her scythe is unmistakable; a pure, glowing staff and blade made of pure aether.The glasses she sometimes wears are just for show; a mask to hide her true identity.She has two books published under her name; a steamy romance novel about two warriors fighting on opposing sides of a war (Demise and Desire), and the first installment of her monster journal, titled The Monsters of Eorzea.

Backstory

Ripped from her parents at birth and given the identification Subject Ennea, the Viera lived and trained at a facility called the Balderoy Institute, an academy under Garlean soil dedicated to training the world’s deadliest assassins. From the age of five Summers, she was trained in a variety of areas: hand-to-hand combat, medic-grade first-aid, tracking, disposal of corpses, etc. The thirty-six girls in Subject Ennea’s class trained together, learning everything from the art of makeup application to various spoken languages to how to act in public spaces. Each and every day, the girls are all pushed to the edge mentally through difficult physical training and are brainwashed into thinking that they and their colleagues are worthless and unimportant to the world. They are convinced that killing is their only purpose, and if they cannot do it, then they have no place in the world outside the Institute.Subject Ennea showed prowess in the art of two-handed weapons, and was then placed under the tutelage of Madame Cordelia, an expert in that field. Madame Cordelia was a strict, cold woman who strived for perfection in her students….and any failure resulted in the person who failed to perform to standard disappearing, their fate unknown to any of the students within. Madame Cordelia refined Subject Ennea's skills, making her incredibly lethal in combat with a scythe.Those who survived the years’ worth of training must undergo the Selection Process, where the now 18 Summers candidates are pitted against one another in a gruesome battle to the death, to the Graduation Ceremony; a surgical process where the victors are permanently sterilized. From there, they are sent to The Emporium, a black market auction held at a luxurious mansion in a location unknown to the graduates to be sold to the highest bidder. Of the thirty-six girls in her class, only four of them survived both the selection process and graduation ceremony.At the auction, Subject Ennea was purchased for 300-million Gil by a Highlander man named Aevar Corneo, the owner of a well-known, high-class brothel in Thanalan called The Bee's Barb, posing as a courtesan – Corneo’s “Honeybees” – while also drugging and robbing her clients…and in extreme cases, killing them if they were a target of the criminal syndicate Corneo affiliated himself with. As the only Viera, she was highly sought after for being “exotic” among the patrons. When hired by affiliates of Aevar, she would often receive gifts from them, most of them books as she’d preferred, and spent any of her free time reading and learning of the world around her. Her favorite client, a monster hunter by trade, would often tell her stories of the creatures he had killed, and eventually, she began to yearn for a life outside the brothel. One that was an impossibility….unless Corneo was dead.One night while preparing to murder a client under orders from Aevar, Subject Ennea’s victim had awoken unexpectedly from his drug-enduced stupor and began pleading with her to spare him. The man struck a bargain with her, offering her 5-million Gil to spare his life, a good amount for her to live off of for a while when added to her own savings. Having earned Aevar's trust after seven Summers of servitude, she faked the client's death and lied to him about his fate. Hours later, Subject Ennea snuck into Aevar’s chambers as he slept, murdering him and utilizing her training to cover up any evidence that indicated her involvement in the crime, successfully framing one of his bodyguards. To help solidify her “innocence” of the murder and eliminate any suspicion, she worked at the brothel for another eight months before slipping away on the night of the 18th Sun of the 6th Umbral Moon.That same night, Subject Ennea visits one of Aevar’s former associates; an illegal Black Mage known as the Sculptor, who specialized in permanently glamouring one’s appearance. She paid him 3-million Gil to change her eye color to a brighter shade of green, lighten her skin a few shades, and altering her height to be shorter. After the process was completed, she emerged from the ratways of Ul’Dah, newly transformed and taking on a new name to celebrate her freedom: Riona Mairwen, and choosing the date of her transformation as her Name Day.Utilizing the information she had learned of the creatures that roamed Eorzea and its neighboring continents, Riona started taking up work as a monster hunter and bodyguard, keeping detailed records of every creature she'd fought in a leather-bound journal; from a photo-realistic sketch to its attack patterns to weaknesses. In her spare time, Riona likes to write, and has published two fictional stories under her new name. Sometimes, Riona can be seen wearing glasses, though they are not actually needed. The Institute forced her to wear spectacles and brainwashed her into thinking that she needed them, and they have since become a comfort mechanism of sorts; helping her keep her "mask on" in tough situations.Now, she roams the world, learning everything she can about herself and the world around her, while keeping an ear to the ground for any trace of the Balderoy Institute's location...
